Pre-Stretched Stretch Film: Loose-Wound vs. Tightly Wound Rolls

When sourcing pre-stretched stretch film, buyers may encounter rolls with different winding appearances. Some rolls are loosely wound, while others have a tighter, more compact structure.

Sinyar Pack offers both loose-wound and tightly wound pre-stretched film. Choosing between them involves more than appearance: buyers should compare film specifications, roll dimensions, packing requirements and their customers’ preferences.

What Is the Difference Between the Two Roll Formats?

Sinyar Pack’s loose-wound pre-stretched film is produced through a rewinding process. The finished roll has a less compact winding structure.

Our tightly wound pre-stretched film is wound directly on the production line, producing a more compact roll structure.

These descriptions refer to how the film is wound. They do not, by themselves, establish which film performs better in a particular packaging application.

Does a Tightly Wound Roll Save Storage Space?

Under otherwise matching specifications, a tightly wound roll can occupy less space than a loosely wound roll.

However, a fair comparison requires the same film width, thickness, length and core dimensions. Comparing a 425 mm wide roll with a 500 mm wide roll does not isolate the effect of winding compactness.

For purchasing and shipment planning, request the finished roll diameter, rolls per carton, carton dimensions and pallet configuration. Compare the space required to deliver the same quantity of film.

Any percentage reduction in packing volume should come from measured data for the specific products being compared.

Which Roll Format Should You Choose?

Start with the roll format your team or customers currently use.

If your customers prefer a loose-wound roll, confirm its width, thickness, length and core dimensions against their existing specification.

If storage or shipment space is a priority, evaluate the tightly wound option using actual roll and packing measurements.

For either format, assess a sample in the intended packaging process. Winding appearance alone cannot confirm suitability for a particular load or working method.

How to Compare Supplier Quotations

Price per roll is meaningful only when the roll specifications are comparable. A lower-priced roll may contain a different film length or net film weight.

Ask each supplier to specify film thickness, width, length, net film weight excluding the core, core dimensions and packing configuration. Confirm whether the quotation covers the same quantity of usable film.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are loose-wound rolls the same as bubble wrap?

No. “Loose-wound” describes the winding structure of the stretch film roll. It does not mean that the film contains the air-filled bubbles found in bubble wrap.

Are both roll formats available in the same thickness?

Available thicknesses depend on the selected product specification. Sinyar Pack’s common loose-wound option is 6–8 microns thick. Please confirm the required thickness for the tightly wound option when requesting a quotation.

Can the specifications be customized?

Custom specifications can be discussed according to your requirements. Feasibility, minimum order quantity and delivery time are confirmed for the selected specification.

What information should I provide for a quotation?

Please provide the required winding format, film thickness, width, roll length or net film weight, core dimensions, order quantity, packing requirements and destination.
